During this challenging economic period, many older job seekers are exploring cosmetic surgery as a way to better prepare themselves for the job hunt. Given the difficult job market, an increasing number of men and women are turning to plastic surgery as a means of maintaining a more youthful appearance, knowing they’ll be interviewing against a wide range of ages. With many in their 60s and 70s delaying retirement and continuing to work, having a youthful image which matches their energy level may help them in their job search. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, eyelid surgeries and facelifts are among the most common surgeries for those looking to appear younger in order to advance their careers. Other non-surgical procedures that can help individuals appear younger include botulinium toxin type A injections such as Botox and Dysport, hyaluronic acid injections such as Juvederm and Restylane, laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels. While some may see cosmetic surgery as an extreme reaction to the competitive job market, for those older job seekers, looking refreshed may just give them the edge they need, helping them to land that much-needed job.
