Breast Reduction vs. Bariatric Surgery
For some women, a combination of health diet and exercise might be all they need to keep themselves fit. But for some overweight women, cosmetic plastic surgeries, such as breast reduction surgery, or bariatric surgery, such as gastric banding and gastric bypass, might be the best way to improve their overall well-being. And for those women considering both breast reduction and bariatric surgeries, a new study reveals that the order in which these two surgeries are performed may improve the final results. While, in some cases, women might undergo breast reduction surgery before losing weight, often to reduce the pain associated with large breasts, at the University of Rochester, researchers found that those who lost weight due to bariatric surgery after breast reduction surgery found that their breasts further reduced in size, leading them to become dissatisfied. Those who had bariatric surgery before breast reduction were more pleased with their breasts appearance. Each person’s case is unique, however, so make sure to discuss all options with your board certified plastic surgeon to find the best fit for you.
