Becoming Whole Again: Cherrie’s story about reconstructive plastic surgery
Jun 22, 2010 Posted by Project Beauty Editor
Dusk was settling in on the southern California coast when Cherrie got into her vintage Mercedes convertible for the drive home from a client’s house.
What happened next would remain seared in her memory for the rest of her life. Stopping at the intersection at the end of her client’s street, Cherrie spotted a car far off in the distance, moving quickly. She decided to be cautious and wait for it to pass before turning; but the car didn’t pass. Instead, at full speed, it careened across four lanes of highway and crashed head-on into her stopped car. It was later discovered that the driver was impaired because of a medication he was taking.
Cherrie suffered severe face lacerations from a shattered windshield, almost losing an eye. The cartilage in her knees was destroyed and her body was covered with bruises.
The emergency room team at the local hospital stitched up her wounds but months later, after most of the healing was done, Cherrie, as she put it, simply did not feel herself. Every time she looked into the mirror, she didn’t recognize the woman looking back.
What happened to Cherrie is not untypical Disfiguring accidents can take a tremendous emotional toll on their victims. Watch Cherrie’s story and see how she found herself again through the help of a board certified plastic surgeon.
